The Organist

The 46-year-old Hungarian organist and composer had some difficulties when he came to the US in 1958. Artists immigrating to the States had a hard time finding a job and integrating into society, especially when they did not speak English. In the first period he was supported not only by the IRC but also by a former student who had been living in the States for some years. Another problem the organist had to deal with was that it took him a very long time to arrange for his family to come to the US. He received considerable help from the Committee in both issues, and by the early 60s he had found proper employment and had been reunited with his family.
